Another day in Borneo and another monkey (ape) hunt, this time for our furry orange cousins the Orangutang!
Semenggoh national park is a quick public bus ride away from Kuching, there are plenty of tours you can take which will pick you up from your hotel and take you straight to the park but the public bus is a fraction of the price and gets you to the park before the crowds arrive which means......
it's possible (with a bit of luck) to see these magnificent apes in peace! The four of us were sitting around reading about what goes on at Semenggoh when we heard rusting coming from above, we turned to see this mama and her baby swinging down through the trees.
It was something else, and all for the grand total of around £2. As the apes were swinging and eating the hoards began to arrive and we moved on to another feeding point further into the jungle.
The big daddy of the park is called Ritchie and we were hoping to get a glimpse of this enormous boy, while he didn't show we did get to see another of the females with her baby.

A gigantic moth, identified by the wonderful Martin Wainwright as the Atlas moth - this biggest in the world!
Malaysia is rich in bio-diversity and the government must protect these endangered species. Ecological tourism has a big potential in Malaysia.

ReplyDeleteBorneo is a country with a rich forestry resources. I have not visited Borneo yet, but I am planning to visit this place soon. For now, I am enjoying the beauty of Thailand where staying in a Thailand villa is rewarding and luxurious. I'm sure that Borneo also has the same great things to offer to its guests and tourists.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I have read many articles about Borneo. It's not only a place of good resources, but also a place of good people. This is also the same description I read from some articles that told the stories about caravan parks in Perth. Anyway, I wish I could visit the beautiful Borneo soon.
